Dear Parents
This week we continue our discussion of bias and compound-complex sentences. There is a good video to review at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caYIeydvA_A although students need to realize that subordinate and dependent are interchangeable. We are preparing to read the next novel, Nothing But the Truth.
Next week the ELA 7 classes will be taking a practice M-STEP test to prepare for the testing this Spring. It will also be a review and wrap up of informational essay writing, so it ties in perfectly with our units.
This Week:
Friday: The Irish Dancers will be here in the morning. Please wear green!
RDW #1—12 Complete Sentences: create 3 compound sentences, 3 complex starting with dependent clauses, 3 complex starting with independent clauses, and 3 compound-complex sentences.
-box in FANBOYS
-circle dependent marker words
-highlight commas.
RDW #2—Sometimes people, even trusted sources, don’t tell us the truth. The truth gets distorted by bias, exaggeration, miscommunication, or outright lies. What are some things we should do to make sure we are seeing the whole picture? Highlight transitions and integrate and highlight the word bias. (articles attached)
Upcoming Important Dates
March 13—Book Talks Due
March 24-25—Quarter 3 Assessment
March 25—Revisions of Essays Due
Enjoy your week
