Dear Parents
This week will go by quickly as we approach the holiday season. This week students will be learning about transition words in their writing and how it differs from a dependent clause. We will also be continuing on in Homeless Bird with some at-home reading. This Week:
Monday: Finish Reading Chapter 4
Tuesday: All Make Up Work is due by 3:15 for a grade, including revision to short story papers.
Thursday: Read through Chapter 6 for class today.
Friday: Quiz: compound and complex sentences, transitions vs. dependent markers, and citing concise quotations explain the pros and cons of a current issue.
RDW #1--Create three complex sentences beginning with dependent clauses, three starting with independent clauses, and three compound sentences. Put a box around FANBOYS, and circle dependent marker words. Highlight all commas.
Some students who have mastered basic compound and complex sentences will be moving onto complex-compound sentences. They were given a gold sheet of paper with examples in class today.
RDW #2-- Re-read pages 49 and 50. Why did Sass take Koly to the government office? Cite and highlight text evidence to support your claim. Three pieces of evidence minimum. (We went over this Monday in class.)
RDW #3--Explain the punctuation rules for complex and compound sentences. Highlight transition words at the beginnings of sentences. Use many, many examples! (Tuesday in class we will cover transitions.)
I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I look forward to seeing all the students upon my return in mid-January.
Ms. Baldini
