This week we are diving into the poetry unit. Please bookmark http://gmsela7poetry.weebly.com/ on your computers or phones at home because it is a vital resource for the upcoming weeks. M-Step testing will cause the schedules to be disrupted while students are testing. In ELA, to overcome this challenge, each lesson will be presented at least twice in class. The website will also have all resources and notes presented each day. The current RDW listing is also on the poetry website. It is in invaluable resource.
Tutoring will be Thursdays for additional help and retaking quizzes.
RDW #1: What impact does figurative language have on poetry? Write about the impact similes and metaphors have on any OR all of the following poems: "Hope is the Thing With Feathers", "Forgetfulness", and "Harlem". Cite and highlight text evidence from any or all of the poems. (see the website for additional resources, helpful hints, and an example)
RDW #2: Free write--choose any topic (school appropriate) to write about. This can be any genre, formal or informal--anything your heart desires :). Highlight three compound-complex sentences if you included them. J
Monday: M-Step Testing Begins
Thursday: Written Book Talk sheets are due.
Friday: RDWs Due/Writing Workshop Time
Last Friday, when we introduced the unit, students were given the rubric and a checklist of what is required for the Poetry Portfolio. This project will be submitted at the end of May.
Have a great week!
