Dear parents,
This week, we are beginning our mystery unit! We are focusing on close reading, concise writing, and using short simple sentences to emphasize an idea.
Dates:
Tuesday: VIP Parent Night at 6:30
Wednesday: Picture Day
Scholastic Book Orders are due and will be submitted after school.
Thursday: (tutoring will be available as well for retakes of quizzes)
RDW #1—Why is it important to read closely? In what kinds of situations is it unwise to simply skim trough something instead of reading closely?
Highlight two simple sentences for emphasis.
RDW #2—What does this article (please see the attached document) say? Concisely summarize the main idea—give just enough information to clue in a reader who hasn’t read the article. How does this apply to your life? In what areas does practice make perfect?
Highlight two simple sentences for emphasis.
Friday: No School
September 30th—first book talk (or book writing) is due. Your child should have finished reading one PR book.
Homework help--
If your child is struggling with RDW #2, they could use these sentence starters:
In the article, “Complexity and the Ten-Thousand-Hour Rule“, by Malcolm Gladwell, the author explains________________________ (if your child is stuck, have them verbally tell you what the article was about).
In my life, practice could improve _____________________________________. If I practiced ________________ more, I think I could ________________________________________________.
Have a great week!
Ms. Baldini
