Dear Parents,
I hope everyone had a great weekend. This week we are starting the next novel, Nothing But the Truth. The 3rd quarter assessment is coming up soon, March 24th-25th, and as we continue to prepare, I would like to remind everyone of tutoring after school on Tuesdays. We have three RDW’s this week:
RDW#1: Briefly summarize the article (1-2 sentences) and answer the following question: How do you know that the article is balanced (i.e. mostly unbiased)? Use text evidence. Highlight transitions.
RDW#2 – Create 3 compound sentences, 3 complex sentences starting with dependent clauses, 3 complex sentences starting with independent clauses, and 3 compound-complex sentences using different patterns. Highlight commas, circle dependent marker words, and box FANBOYS.
RDW#3 - Briefly summarize the article (1-2 sentences) and answer the following question: How do you know that the article is biased? Use text evidence. Highlight transitions.
Dates:
Friday, March 20th: RDW’s due
Monday, March 23rd: Written book projects due (for those who did not do book talks)
Tuesday, March 24th: Third quarter assessment part 1
Wednesday, March 25th: Third quarter assessment part 2
Friday, March 27th: Last day of the quarter
Homework Help:
If your child is struggling with getting started with RDW#1 and RDW#2, try asking the following questions:

If your child is struggling with getting started with RDW#1 and RDW#2, try asking the following questions:
- Do you notice any extreme or biased word choice?
- Does there seem to be any information left out?
- Is the article being presented from more than one point of view?
