Dear parents,
The school year is quickly coming to a close! We are continuing to work on our poetry projects, and at this point, students should have a haiku, limerick, and object poem written. We will be working on emulation this week—identifying craft choices author’s have made and imitating their writing. Please refer to the poetry website, gmsela7poetry.weebly.com for RDWs, homework help, notes, or poems we are using in class.
Due dates:
RDW #1— What do you think makes a good poem? Give examples from any poems we have read or any of your favorite poems. Highlight text evidence.
RDW #2— What craft choices did the author of “Foul Shot” make? How did that impact the poem? What kind of tone was the author trying to create? Highlight text evidence.
Poetry portfolios: 6/1 (although students can turn them in on 5/29 for extra credit.
Book talks: 5/22 (if they miss this deadline, they can write a one-pager on their book by 5/29)
Quarterly assessment: 5/28
This will cover:
WoW words:
Dangling and misplaced modifiers
-Compound-complex sentences
-Author’s craft choices, specifically regarding personification, similes, metaphors, alliteration, imagery, rhyming, and repetition.
Have a great week!
Ms Baldini
