Dear parents:
I hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing Thanksgiving! This week, we will continue to build expertise with complex sentences, practice research skills, and learn how to correctly cite text evidence. Your student will be receiving a copy of the novel, Homeless Bird, this week as well.
Dates:
Wednesday: Students will be continuing to research and should bring headphones or earbuds to the computer lab.
Friday:
Quiz: complex sentences, compound sentences, citing text evidence.
RDW #1--Create three complex sentences beginning with dependent clauses, three starting with independent clauses, and three compound sentences. Put a box around FANBOYS, and circle dependent marker words. Highlight all commas.
RDW #2—Write an RDW about any topic of your choice. For the first half of your paper, write only complex sentences beginning with dependent clauses. For the second half of your paper, write only complex sentences beginning with independent clauses. Circle dependent marker words. Highlight all commas.
Monday, December 8: Scholastic book order forms have been distributed, and our next due date for submissions will be Monday, December 8 to be sure that all orders are received before Christmas break.
Penny Wars: Seminar classes will compete to raise money to benefit local families through the Kiawanis Club. Students can bring in money or nonperishable food items as they compete with other seminars.
Short Story Mysteries: Students will receive their papers back this week in a mini-conference. Students may revise the papers and turn them back in for grading no later than December 16. Students have been advised that they must have an extended conference with me about their paper, and make significant changes. (more than adding a comma or two to the paper)
Mid-term grades will be sent home on Friday.
Have a great week,
Ms. Baldini
