Dear parents,
This week, students will be working on an on-demand essay regarding our theme for this year: perspective. This is an in-class activity to assess your student’s strengths and identify some personal writing goals for the year. We will also be starting our mystery unit at the end of the week. This will encourage students to read texts closely and use context clues to help them figure out what will happen in the story!
Due dates:
Friday:
-RDW#1 Concisely summarize the story, “The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant”, giving only enough information to clue in a reader who has not read the story. Next, explain your perspective: did the narrator made the right choice when he let the fish go? Highlight the word perspective.
*if your student is struggling with this assignment, see the help section at the bottom of this e-mail.
Thanks, and have a great week,
Leanne Falconer
If your child needs help starting the RDW, he or she could use these paragraph starters:
In the W.D. Weatherall’s short story, “The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant,” the main character (brief summary of the story)…
From my perspective, the narrator (did/did not) make the right choice when he let the fish go because…
He should have…
He learned that…
The short story can be found online, or if you want a quick summary, you can use the link below:
